Why does soil analysis matter?
Soil analysis is a method that reveals the fertilizer and lime requirement of a given field. A soil sample representing the field is analysed in the laboratory to determine the amounts of plant nutrients it contains; this shows which fertilizers should be applied so the crop yields well.
Fertilizing without a soil analysis is a mistake: too much or too little fertilizer, the wrong type of fertilizer, and poor timing all reduce yield and raise costs. A correct fertilization programme can only be built from the analysis of a representative soil sample.
